Redwood Rollers season 2010

Hi newsletter fans!

So the Redwood Rollers are a united front this year. The Redwood Rollers and the Redwood Roller All Stars.

The Redwood Rollers took on Coos Bay and well lets just say we beat them by over 100 pts. It was a great win for us. The all stars set to take in the Oakland Outlaws and thought for sure it would be a close bout but alas the penalties caught up with us and we lost to Oakland by 36 pts.

Oakland is such a fun team to play. We hope to make it a annual tradition.

This next month and a half we have 4 bouts! yes you heard right 4!
We head to Eugene in a couple of weeks. The Redwood Rollers are taking both teams to bring a tough Humboldt welcome to Eugene Oregon. Last Year Eugene's Skatesaphrenic's came to our turf and taught us a few lessons and we are planning on returning the favor. Eugene Oregon Roller Derby league is a great organization and it will be great bout to come out and see. If you can make it Humboldt Fans we would love to hear you in the bleachers.

Oh and that's not all May 1st we play Sacramento Capital City Punisher's all the way in Sac town. This will be the first time Sacramento and Humboldt match up. You know you want to come to this bout! Its only 6 hours!  That's nothing for us Humboldt folks.

You think we would get a rest but nope. May 15th we take on the Shevil Dead from San Fransisco. This one is at home folks No excuses there! You must come.
Tickets actually for this bout will be on sale April 15th on line. You know they go fast. You also should know by now that seating is at a premium. There is no guaranteed seating at our events. So get there early or you will have to be standing or sitting on concrete. It is what it is. I wish we could give everyone a fancy plushy seat but the truth of it is, we bout at a fairgrounds. And, well you can only fit so much in there.  I know I know we need a bigger place. But there is no bigger place. Not yet anyways and well we can not afford a bigger place.

Did you know we all pay 60 bucks a month to play roller derby? Plus we do all the set up and all kinds of other stuff to keep this baby trucking along. So don't be mad...we are doing our very best to make sure we make everyone comfy and happy. If you have any suggestions or hey maybe you're a rich millionaire that happens to love Humboldt Roller Derby and you happen to want to kick us down a building that would be cool.  Please contact our board of directors.
hrdboard@humboldtrollerderby.com

I kid, I kid...unless you really do have a fabulous building you want to give us at a huge discount. * Wink* Wink*

I got off topic. I am trying to tell you about all these rad bouts we have coming up and I am close to the very best one....WE ARE..YES HUMBOLDT ROLLER DERBY IS GOING TO BE IN THE BIG ONE!!!! First weekend of June!

I was yelling that by the way. In total excitement.

What is The Big One you might ask? Its a tournament for California Leagues. Its huge bragging rights pretty much if you win.

So we are pretty much peeing in our pants with excitement about going.

Go to our website...Keep yourselves a breast on our progress and when tickets go on sale.

I know you might be saying " YOUR WEBSITE? Your website sucks!"  Well not anymore folks. The board of directors kicked its ass. With some, well a lot of help from a cool dude named Patrick.

Okay that about sums it up for now. I know I tend to lag on this newsletter thing. I have not forgotten about you all. I, well; get distracted like a little weasel and all of the sudden "poof " its a month later .

Oh my goodness I almost forgot! We have a Jr. Derby league now! The Redwood Saplings!
we are in the midst of a 10 week spring session. With a Winter one to follow.
For more info on that you really should go to our website.

Alrighty HRD fans.

Sleep tight and we hope some of you make it to our away bouts for some good ole fashion Humboldt County Support.
We plan on representing and making Humboldt proud of its Derby League.

Until next time

March 20th bout

Here we go again!

Wow I did not even post the link this time and people are getting crafty.

So here you go folks hurry as 48 of the 100 available on line are already gone! HOLY COW.

http://www.brownpapertickets.com/producer/7550

The paper tickets will be at The Works and Peoples Records this weekend if not then for sure by Tues.

MAN last time we sold out so fast. I had folks calling my business yelling at me.

Redwood Acres is only so big so we can only let 500 folks in. We want you all to come for realsy but we want you all to be safe too.

So please bare with us as we continue to hunt for the perfect building that will accommodate us and all of you for 2011.

You are all the BEST! you make every event so freak'n fun. We just love it. It makes all the hard work so worth it.

If you missed out on the Feb bout I can tell you it was crazy rough out there. First half I was the most penalized player. Not usually the case.
E-wheels hit me so hard I flew backwards and had to do a body check to make sure all the parts were still working. I got her back though. Which she loved. Cause I love her.
One of our newest skaters Rust. E. Machete got MVP of the night for being the highest scoring jammer!  Watch out for her she is going to be coming up in no time.

But in the end,  with the North Jetty Betty's having a lead all night,   the Widow Makers taught us a lesson of tenacity and took the win by 1 point!
Last jam of the night it was tied when the final whistle blows it was 115 to 114. Ahhh what a great great bout that was.
Great way to start off the season.

March 20th is going to be epic.
A rematch for the All star Redwood Rollers against Oakland Outlaws and now the Widow Makers and North Jetty Bettys combine to be a force that will be hard to beat for Coos Bay.

So come come come! Lets ring out the season together.

But wait there is more! really!

It should be totally finished in the next month! How exciting!!!!!

Skaters from HRD are going to put their fancy clothes on and go to Eureka City Council meeting and give and update on our progress and hopefully come up with a solution to finalize our partnership with the city to start a Jr. Derby camp! Yes that is right we are coming after your little ones.

So while Oct 24 is our last public bout, we will still be working hard in the still of the off season to make 2010 AMAZING!

Humboldt Roller Derby keeps on truck'n

Hi folks here we are again...Yes so soon...Another bout!

You know you are always the first to know...
head pieces://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/76666

Tickets are now available online at Brown Paper tickets.

Now for the update on the many successes HRD has had recently.

To those who do not know we have two home teams yes that is right 2 home teams.  A mix of  seasoned skaters and new skaters.

On July 24th some of those new skaters bouted for the first time ever and man did they give us all  a show!  The North Jetty Bettys pulled out a win with the score close. Widow Makers have been holding the title of undefeated until last Friday.

All season these two teams have been matching up fighting for victory but on August 15th these two teams will combine to create and All star home team to battle the Exhibitionist from Eugene Oregon.

So this is a bout you will not want to miss!!!!!
While the North Jetty Bettys were bringing in a win the Redwood Rollers took Chico's Norcal Rollers by 100 points. Proving that all of our hard work , training, and team unification was a power to be reckoned with.

Just when you thought it could not get any better than the two home teams combining the Redwood Rollers will be taking on Eugene's Skatesaphrenics.

There is history to be told here. Just to lay out how hard of a battle this will be.  The Redwood Rollers 2 months ago played Bay Area's Oakland Outlaws. We lost after a strong fight by 60 plus points. ( Still one of my most favorite bouts; Its hard to be sad to loose to some bad ass classy skaters)

Not too long ago a team we have yet to play ;Sonoma County Wine Wreckers beat the Oakland Outlaws.  Why is this relevant? Because the Skatesaphrenics beat the Wine Wreckers!

So as you can see Redwood Rollers are going to have to pull together , work hard , and fiercely defend our home turf.

Get ready Humboldt for the most Amazing bout of the season! Its coming up fast so get your tickets now!!!!

Paper tickets will be available the week before!

As always Humboldt County,

Thank you for being the best fans any derby player could ask for! No other city, no other league has better support and fans like you!
When you are cheering us on we just want to work harder for all of you! And this bout we will need you more than ever.

See you there!

Jenneral Ms.Chief

Humboldt Roller Derby is up to it again...

If you do not know by now we are a spunky motivated bunch of ladies and gents.

We are all getting together to create another branch of our league called "drum roll please".........
The Redwood Saplings!

A Jr. Derby league for the little ladies out there. If your daughter isn't the cheer type, maybe soccer and softball are not her thing either then introduce her to our up and coming Jr. derby Camp.

We are still working out the details but we are in full swing getting it ready.
Hey maybe you possibly  just wanna help  ( insert blinky cutie pie eyes here)

If you have any gear you would like to donate.
We need

  • Skates
  • elbow pads
  • knee pads
  • helmets
  • wrist guards

If you are wandering a thrift store or yard sale and see any of these items or just have them lying around we are accepting donations at Ras Works in Fortuna, STIL and a Fertile World in Eureka, and AMPT skate shop in Arcata.

Help the next generation of skaters and stay tuned for details for your little skating rollergirls.

Love,
Jenneral Ms.Chief
